The Department of Environment (JAS) of the State of Kedah in collaboration with JAS Sungai Petani Branch has conducted OPS Gempur Examination of Scheduled Discharge Carrier License Compliance Schedule (PYDT-BT) and Release Testing from Diesel Engine The carrier of PYDT-BT. This Ops Gempur has been successful with the strength of 13 officers from the Licensing Unit, Motor Vehicle Unit and JAS Enforcement Unit of Sungai Petani Branch. Inspection has been carried out on emergency and safety equipment as stipulated in the License Compliance Schedule (Condition No. 7.6) based on the check list of Annex B-1 (Condition No . 7.7) of 46 PYDT-BT vehicles of various owner capacity/3rd party 9 PYDT -BT premises under the supervision of JAS Sungai Petani Branch. In addition, testing of the control of the exhaust of smoke from PYDT-BT carrier was also carried out to ensure compliance with the discharge control limits from diesel engines allocated under the Environmental Quality Regulations (Diesel Engine Emission Control) 1996. Inspection of PYDT-BT carriers is one of the requirements to be carried out before approval as designated carrier (Condition No. 6.1) to be considered to a vehicle to transport scheduled waste. License holders violating the license requirements can be punished under Section 16(1), the Environmental Quality Act 1974 which can be imposed on a fine of RM25,000 or imprisonment for not exceeding 2 years or both while non-compliance with the release control limit from diesel engines can be punished by compound action not more than RM2,000 as allocated under the Environmental Quality Regulations (Emission Control From Diesel Engine) 1996.
